Name: Judi Hewitt
Location: Rhyl, Denbighshire
Affiliations: North Wales Hunt Sabs
Assault: In January 2014 Hewitt, aged 69, failed to overturn her conviction of assault on a Mr. Robert Smith after he legally shot a fox on private land near Denbigh. Hewitt denied the assault on Mr. Smith.
Judge Geraint Walters said, according to the court records, she had not meant to lie, rather ‘her emotions consumed her and she has large blanks in her memory of events’. Mr. Smith gave evidence that when he shot the fox, Hewitt had become seriously upset; screaming and then lashing out and striking him.
Joint-master of the Flint and Denbigh hunt Jeremy Reed said: “Rob was keeping to the letter of the law and had the full permission of the landowner. We understand that people do oppose fox management but we believe Ms Hewitt went too far.”
Hewitt demonstrated a solid misunderstanding of fox management on her Facebook, saying that foxes have never been proven to kill lambs – a lack of knowledge being a common theme amongst sabs. We attach a post from Wildlife Online supporting the illegitimacy of this comment – foxes are in-fact, incredibly well known to take lambs, young goats, chickens, geese and piglets if they can.
Antisemitic posts: In April 2019, the Board of Deputies, the largest and second oldest Jewish communal organisation in the United Kingdom, has called for Hewitt to be expelled from the Labour Party and suspended from Twitter over ‘antisemitic posts’.
Hewitt posted comments on Twitter criticising ‘rich Jews’ who don’t want a ‘socialist government’ a clear continuation of her antisemitic language.
